Published Wednesday, Jul 29 2009, 12:01 BST | By Andrew Laughlin
Programming on the channel will be targeted towards boys aged six to 14, including live action movies, animated shows and sports coverage from the Disney-owned ESPN.
Debuting on Disney XD will be live action adventure series Aaron Stone, along with animated shows Phineas and Ferb and Iron Man: Armoured Adventures.
The channel's regular Monday movie slot will begin on the Bank Holiday with Pirates of the Caribbean and Meet the Robinsons.
Disney general manager UK and Ireland Boel Ferguson said: "Boys, like girls, place incredibly high standards on their entertainment choices. They demand complex, multi-faceted characters that, while not perfect, are smart, selfless, determined and brave.
"Disney XD will deliver those kinds of characters and stories in a wide range of formats - animation, live action, movies and sports and it will focus on the core value of accomplishment."
