Yesterday, the 38-year-old shock jock sparked outrage after commenting that Szubanski - who has lost 25kg and dropped five dress sizes - would lose more weight if she were in a concentration camp.
A statement from 2Day FM said Sandilands was suspended "pending further discussions involving [him] and station management".
"2Day FM believes the comments made by Kyle were unacceptable and sincerely apologises and regrets any offence they caused," the statement read.
This morning, Sandilands said his comments about Szubanski was "just one of those things" and he did not mean to offend the actress.
"It was not my intention to upset anyone and I sincerely apologise to anyone offended by my comments," he said in a statement issued by 2Day FM's parent company Austereo.
Yesterday, Kyle and Jackie O were named Australia's "most hated" celebrities, while in July, the radio duo was suspended after a 14-year-old girl confessed to being raped when strapped to a lie detector live on air.
