Top programme of the night went to EastEnders, which shed more than a million viewers from Monday to average 12.17 million (50.4%) at 7.30pm. ITV1's Emmerdale was also down, with an average of just 8.55 million (38.7%).
Five enjoyed another strong night thanks to its double bill of forensic dramas CSI and CSI: Miami, which drew audiences of 3.34 million (13.9%) and 2.74 million (14.3%) respectively.
Channel 4's Brat Camp posted 3.26 million (13.6%) in the 9pm hour, comfortably topping BBC Two's new coming-of-age documentary Natural World, which had 2.48 million (9.9%).
Over on multichannel, ITV2 was the top performer with an average of 859,000 viewers (5.4%) for its coverage of Liverpool's Champions League fixture against Bayer Leverkusen. Its subsequent movie repeat Dante's Peak also fared admirably with an average of 426,000 (4.3%) from 9.55pm.
Stargate ruled the roost for Sky One, meanwhile, with audiences of 813,000 (4.9%) and 360,000 (2.8%) for its 8pm and 6pm episodes respectively. Spinoff Stargate Atlantis drew 602,000 (3.7%) at 9pm.
E4's new episode of The O.C. pulled in 232,000 (1.4%) in the 9pm hour, but was easily trumped by a repeat of homegrown comedy Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, which managed 328,000 (2.0%) on BBC Three.
BBC Four's top draw was new documentary Europe: A Natural History, which informed 189,000 (1.2%) at 9pm, ranking as the 34th most popular multichannel programme of the day.
