Election campaigning was suspended yesterday (Saturday) as the party leaders attended the royal wedding.
BBC One's coverage of the nuptials averaged a hefty 7.07 million (51%) from midday, easily wiping the floor with ITV1's offering, which entertained only 1 million from the later time of 2pm.
Amogst the dedicated newschannels, News 24 was the overwhelming outlet of choice for viewers. A hefty 528,000 (6%) were watching at 2pm - and the audience stayed above 400,000 for most of the afternoon. Sky News could only muster a top audience of 175,000 (1.51%) between 5pm and 7pm. Its non-stop coverage of the wedding averaged 154,000 (1.97%) over seven hours from 10am. During primetime (7pm - 10pm), the channel held a steady 66,000 (0.43%).
