ITV Sport presenter Steve Rider is thinking of taking legal action over the channel's decision to hire Adrian Chiles, say reports.

It was announced yesterday that Chiles is to leave the BBC and join ITV, replacing the 59-year-old host in a £1m-a-year deal.

The Daily Mail understands that Rider has a strong case against the commercial broadcaster as it is believed his £500,000-a-year contract states that he will front the World Cup football programmes.

However, an ITV spokesperson said: "Steve is a fantastic sports presenter and we hope to continue working with him."

Rider, who made the similar move from the BBC to ITV in 2005, could apparently make a return to the corporation.
