Sony has outlined its plans for HDTV products in the UK at a press event attended by Digital Spy's Alan Jay.
During the rest of 2005, Sony will roll out a new range of "HD Ready" products - some of which will include an integrated digital terrestrial TV tuner. According to information presented at the event, sets with 23"+ screens will have an integrated DTT tuner while sets with screens larger than 26" will be "HD Ready."
For the top end of the market, Sony's Qualia range will include a 46" LCD screen capable of 1960x1080 resolution with an "enhanced colour system" designed to present richer red and green colours.
Sony also unveiled a new palm-sized HDV camcorder at the event. The HDR-HC1E will likely roll out during July and cost around £1,500. The device, which is being billed as the first consumer HDV camcorder, contains a 3 megapixel CMOS chip with a lux level near 2, is capable of recording 5.1 surround sound, and has a 2.7" wide LCD screen.
