Al-Jazeera gears up for English station

Al-Jazeera has revealed more details of its plans to launch an English-language news channel.
The Qatar-based broadcaster is setting up a new HQ in Doha, capital of Qatar, as well as branch broadcast centres in Washington D.C., London and Kuala Lumpur in time for the channel's launch early next year.
The new station aims to offer unique coverage of world events from a Mideast perspective, broadcasting live from each of the centres across the day.
"We have the advantage in the Middle East of having very good contacts," Al-Jazeera Intl. commercial director Lindsey Oliver told Variety. "We're established as a news channel there; we have access to stories that other channels don't have the luxury of attaining in the region."
Although an exact programming lineup has yet to be confirmed, Oliver added that the channel would most likely follow the pattern of established rivals: 30 minutes of news followed by 30 minutes of analysis, with personality-led shows in primetime.
