MTV, VH1 in US to re-air Live 8 concerts
Published Friday, Jul 8 2005, 17:14 BST | By James Welsh
MTV and VH1 in the US will re-air ten consecutive hours of musical performances this weekend from the Live 8 concerts.
The move comes after a wave of criticism from critics and viewers that the MTV telecast of Live 8 on July 2 was too pre-occupied with giving airtime to VJs and backstage interviews at the expense of the actual music.
"At MTV and VH1, we're in a constant and candid dialogue with our audience," said Van Toffler, president of the MTV Networks Music Group. "In the wake of our coverage last Saturday, our viewers have resoundingly told us on-line they want to see full performances from their favourite artists. As a result of viewer demand and thanks to the Live 8 organizers and performers, MTV and VH1 will air 10 consecutive hours from one of the most important musical events of our time."
