The Sci Fi Channel has appointed Jon Farrar, head of scheduling at VH-1, as its new director of programming.
The post had been vacant for almost two years following the departure of Jason Thorp for FX in September 2003.
"Jon has an excellent track record of driving ratings through the creative commissioning, scheduling and acquisition of programmes," said Nick Betts, the channel's managing director.
Meanwhile, the channel has revealed a host of new acquisitions for the autumn, including Odyssey 5, Profiler, She Spies, Psychic Detectives and season four of Stephen King's The Dead Zone.
