Patrick Kielty is to present Radio 2's Saturday morning slot for three months after Jonathan Ross leaves the BBC, it has been announced.

The Irish star will start work as a temporary replacement for Ross this month and continue in the role until Graham Norton takes over permanently in October, The Mirror reports.

Kielty's appointment comes after he hosted Radio 2's New Year's Resolutions show in January and The People's Artist Chart in April.

Speaking of his temporary role, the comedian explained: "I'm delighted to be sharing Saturday mornings with the listeners of Radio 2. I've had great craic making my shows earlier this year and I'm really looking forward to kickstarting the weekend on the wireless this summer."

Radio 2's head of programmes Lewis Carnie added: "It's always exciting to introduce new regular voices to the schedule, and I'm delighted that Patrick will have a lengthy stint on the network."

The news has already led to speculation that Kielty could land a permanent Radio 2 show if his guest hosting stint proves successful.
