A lineup of soaps and drama helped BBC One to a ratings victory on Tuesday night.
EastEnders put in a convincing 10.1 million (48.8%) at 7.30pm to top the ratings chart, while in the 8pm hour, a guest appearance from Adrian Edmondson helped Holby City to 7.39 million (33%). The final part of Spooks had 6.36 million (28.6%) at 9pm.
ITV1 enjoyed a damp evening by comparison, peaking with 7.43 million (40.2%) for Emmerdale. Champions League coverage of the game between Chelsea and Anderlecht blanketed primetime but interested only 3.75 million (17%).
A feature-length episode of CSI: Miami fared well for Five, managing 2.81 million (13.1%) between 9pm and 10.20pm. Retro reality series Wakey Wakey Campers, shown on Channel 4 at the same time, averaged 1.89 million (8.5%).
Topping the multichannel chart was ITV2's coverage of the game between Real Betis and Liverpool, which pulled in an average of 818,000 (5.5%) between 7pm and 10pm. A subsequent repeat of Bond movie GoldenEye held an impressive 494,000 (6.2%) into the early hours.
A new Nighty Night had 513,000 (4.8%) for BBC Three at 10.30pm, down by around 100,000 on last week's opener.
