Mitchells are 'EastEnders' ratings gold

The return of the Mitchell brothers continued to provide ratings gold for BBC One's EastEnders on Thursday night.
The soap drew a 54.4% share of the audience for its 7:30pm timeslot, equating to around 11.5m viewers. ITV1's Coming Up Roses, in comparison, managed 3.87m viewers, a 15.7% share.
It was a good night for BBC One all round, with Bleak House (6.61m, 28.9% share) beating The Bill (6.12m, 26.8% share) over on ITV1 at 8pm. (Also at 8, Gordon Ramsay's The F Word on Channel 4 averaged 2.17m viewers, a 9.5% share.) At 9pm, Spooks averaged close to 6m viewers, a share of 27.5%, compared to 4.08m viewers for ITV1's All About George. Channel 4 spent the rest of the evening in Blitz: London's Firestorm, averaging 1.92m (10% share) through to 11:05pm.
Emmerdale, however, led its 7pm slot with 7.56m viewers (38% share) against the conclusion of Casualty @ Holby City (5.43m, 27.3% share) on BBC One.
At 10pm, news bulletins on BBC One hovered around the 5m mark (26% share) through to 10:35pm, before Question Time dipped that to 2.44m (18.5% share) through to 11:35pm. Mike Bassett: Manager on ITV1 averaged 2.52m (12.69%) through to 11pm. House on Five took at 11% share of the audience with viewer numbers just shy of 2m.
In the multichannel ratings, EastEnders boosted BBC Three to 950,000 viewers in the 10pm hour, a 6.6% audience share. ITV2's movie, American Pie 2, averaged just under 750,000 viewers (5.3% share) between 9pm and 11:05pm.
