HBO mulling channel launch in UK
Published Friday, Jan 20 2006, 07:41 GMT | By Neil Wilkes

HBO International president Simon Sutton said that the US, subscription-based broadcaster was "investigating a presence" in the UK, France, Spain, Italy, Germany and Japan.
The network already operates HBO-branded channels in Latin America, India, south-east Asia and eastern Europe.
The launch of an HBO service in the UK could affect broadcasters who have traditionally bought the rights to air shows such as The Sopranos, Curb Your Enthusiasm and Six Feet Under.
Sutton insisted HBO would not "cut out the networks", adding that HBO's extensive documentary output could form the basis for a new channel.
