Shine International, part of Elisabeth Murdoch's Shine Group, has appointed Disney executive Ruth Clarke to lead its sales and distribution business in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

Clark, currently Disney's commercial director of digital media distribution in EMEA, will join Shine on January 31 in the newly-created position of head of Shine International EMEA.

Reporting to Shine's Los Angeles-based executive vice president John Pollak, she will oversee sales and distribution of all Shine formats in EMEA territories.

Shine International distributes more than 3,000 hours of programming to around 150 countries worldwide, including shows such as MasterChef, One Born Every Minute and Got To Dance.

At Disney, Clarke has been responsible for developing the firm's new media business in EMEA territories and championing new branded services across Europe. Prior to that, she worked at Warner Brothers International Television Distribution and Accenture.

"Ruth is an exceptional professional. With her experience and reputation in EMEA territories and digital media distribution, she brings a level of expertise and a unique set of skills to our London team that is second to none," said Shine International president Chris Grant.

"We are delighted she has agreed to take on this key position and I look forward to working with her closely to develop our business here yet further."

Clarke added: "Shine International is a flourishing business whose outlook, dedication and breadth of clients has always impressed me.

"I have hugely enjoyed my time at Disney in the different roles that I've been privileged enough to hold there, however this was an opportunity to join a very exciting, dynamic group at a fantastic time in their growth, which I'm very excited to be doing."
