CBS reporter Lara Logan, who was "brutally" attacked in Egypt, has received a telephone call from US President Barack Obama.

During the call, Obama reportedly wished the South African reporter a speedy recovery and sent his good wishes, according to CBS.

Logan has worked as the chief foreign correspondent for CBS since 2006 and has previously covered the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

USA Today reports that Logan is currently recovering at her Washington DC home after being released from New York Hospital earlier this week.

Last week, CNN anchor Anderson Cooper described details of being assaulted while covering the North African country's protests.
