Mark Macdonald, BBC Worldwide's head of publicity for programming and production, is quitting the corporation for a role at Sony Pictures Television.

Macdonald, currently the vice-president of communications at Worldwide's content & production division, will become executive director of corporate communications for Sony Pictures Television across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

He will officially join Sony on March 7, shortly after appearing for the final time at Worldwide's annual programming event, Showcase, next week in Brighton. He has been at Worldwide - the BBC's commercial arm - for the past eight years.

Based at the Sony Pictures Television headquarters in London, Macdonald will report to Paula Askanas, the firm's senior vice president of corporate communications.
