Today and tomorrow between 7.45pm and 10.30pm, the digital station will carry live coverage of the New Jersey Nets taking on the Toronto Raptors at London's O2 Arena.
Chris Mitchell, who has covered basketball for BBC World Service, will present the coverage, as well as co-commentate with Mark Woods, editor of NVP Magazine.
They will be joined tonight by summariser Tony Garbelotto, head coach of the Merseyside Tigers, and tomorrow night by Rob Paternostro, head coach of the Leicester Riders.
The coverage will include interviews with the players and coaches of both teams, as well as contributions from FIBA secretary general Patrick Baumann, plus Great Britain's Olympic coach Chris Finch and team captain Drew Sullivan.
In the build up to tonight's game, Colin Murray will be in the NBA fan zone shooting hoops with NBA star Darryl Dawkins from 7pm. The programme will also be streamed live online.
BBC Radio 5 Live and Sports Extra deputy controller Jonathan Wall said: "We know how big the NBA is in the UK and it's great that Sports Extra can capture this historic event."
