The PictureBox Player enables subscribers to access content on multiple devices through a single subscription, including PCs, Apple's iPad and Samsung's connected TVs.
At any one time, 28 new and library feature films from NBCUniversal and other content providers are available for on-demand viewing via the platform, including Mamma Mia!, Charlie Wilson's War and Pride & Prejudice.
Subscribers can already access PictureBox movies on a variety of digital TV platforms, such as Virgin Media, TalkTalk TV and Top Up TV. Further global expansion of the PictureBox Player is planned, as well as the addition of more connected devices.
"The launch of PictureBox Player in the UK and Ireland is a major step in the evolution of the PictureBox brand, and now provides consumers the convenience of multiple screen access," said NBCUniversal International Television Distribution president Belinda Menendez.
The PictureBox Player is powered by technology developed by SyncTV Corporation, a provider of cloud-based infrastructure allowing content publishers to offer premium video services to subscribers over the internet.
