Dick Emery has announced plans to retire as chief executive of UKTV at the end of the year.
Emery, who turns 60 in July, has been with the broadcaster since 1998 and is credited with turning the operation into a 10-channel proposition with a turnover of £177 million.
"I have had a fantastic eight years at UKTV and have enjoyed seeing it go from strength to strength in the digital world," said Emery. "It's a thriving business and in great shape for the future. It is absolutely the right time for someone else to have the opportunity to take the company forward into the next phase of development."
Malcolm Wall, head of content at NTL, is now seeking a replacement with Darren Childs, MD of global channels at BBC Worldwide. "Dick's passion and determination has built UKTV into one of the most important and successful multi-channel provider in the UK, and forms a key part of BBC Worldwide’s commercial channels business," said Childs. "UKTV's success is testimony to Dick's entrepreneurial and visionary skills."
