Miranda Hart and Jon Holmes will join BBC Radio 2 tonight to present three special comedy shows before Jo Whiley starts at the station next week.

Last Wednesday evening, the final Radcliffe And Maconie Show aired on Radio 2 before the duo make their move to BBC 6 Music.

Whiley will take over the 8pm to 9.30pm weekday evening show on Radio 2 from April 4, but Hart and Holmes will cover the slot from March 28 to March 30.

Airing from 8pm to 10pm, the duo's live comedy shows will each feature a special guest, starting tonight with Stephen Fry and followed by Will Young tomorrow.

"I am full of childish excitement to have the honour of joining the wonderful, and my favourite, Radio 2, for a few nights," said Hart.

"Can I call myself a, what I call, disc jockey, now? I can't wait to chat to the Radio 2 massive at the end of March."

Holmes added: "Miranda and I have been conducting a clandestine affair for many years, so what better way to announce our union than by becoming broadcasting's latest romantically-linked couple after Richard and Judy, Radcliffe and Maconie and Bernie Winters and Schnorbitz."

Hart's RTS award-winning TV comedy started life on Radio 2 as Miranda Hart's Jokeshop, a four-part series first broadcast in 2008. The show featured the same Miranda cast of Sarah Hadland, Tom Ellis and Patricia Hodge.

Holmes is a double Bafta Award-winning writer and comedian who has appeared on Radio 4 series Dead Ringers and currently hosts a Saturday afternoon show on 6 Music.

Lewis Carnie, head of programmes at Radio 2, said: "The opportunity to pair two of the UK's best-loved comedy talents was irresistible to us and I'm very much looking forward to hearing their shows."

The special shows are part of Radio 2's commitment to original comedy, including the recent resurrection of the New Comedy Awards, a nationwide search for the best emerging stand-up talent in the UK.

Matt Lucas also returns to the station this Saturday for a second series of And The Winner Is…, the actor's unusual awards ceremony aptly-titled the 'Lucases'.
