Chris Moyles has signed a record pay deal with Radio 1, highlighting DJs' hugely varying salaries.
The breakfast show host will now receive £630,000 a year – or, according to The Sun, £15 per minute he is on air.
An industry insider told the paper: “Chris is a huge talent and is credited for increasing audience share.
"But I think people will be surprised to hear he’s paid so much more than the others," he continued. "There’s a chasm in the pay scale which isn’t really justified."
Jo Whiley earns an estimated £250,000 despite working on five shows a week. Sara Cox's salary is about £200,000 for two each week and drive-time DJ Scott Mills gets about £130,000.
