Actress Maureen Lipman yesterday gave Andrew Marr a tough time on his own television show over revelations that he took out a super-injuction to cover up an affair.

Lipman, 64, made references to the scandal while appearing as a guest reviewer on The Andrew Marr Show, aired at 9am on BBC One.

This marked the first time that Marr had appeared on TV since confirming that he took out a court injunction in 2008 to stop the press reporting details about an affair that he had with an unnamed journalist, which ended in 2003.

Discussing the royal wedding coverage, Lipman said that it was "a great week to hide an injunction story if one wanted to".

Marr, clearly embarrassed, replied: "You cheeky woman. Yes, this is true." The 51-year-old father of three went on to admit: "I have to say I have featured in the newspapers."

Lipman and fellow guest, the TV historian Simon Schama, also highlighted an article featuring an unflattering cartoon of Marr, alongside the headline: "Old Jug Ears, daddy of the super secret."

Marr, who is married to The Guardian columnist Jackie Ashley, said: "It's a slightly disobliging piece but the worrying thing is that the picture is rather unpleasant and also entirely accurate, so there we go."

The former political editor also said that the "super-injunction issue is not going to go away", and called on MPs to review the situation.
