Johns criticised for exposing rivals' salaries

Matthew Johns, Mark Geyer and Gus Worland have been criticised for reading out an alleged salary list of Sydney's top radio earners live on air.

The Triple M trio, who co-host The Grill show, caused controversy when they discussed how much stars such as Ray Hadley, Brendan Jones and Amanda Keller earn for their presenting jobs.

The team claimed that WSFM's Jones gets $700,000 (£460,000) a year despite co-host Keller earning $410,000 (£270,000) and also mentioned that Ray Hadley earns $2.3 million (£1.5 million) annually.

Jones responded to The Daily Telegraph: "I am not on anything like $700,000 but Matty said I am - when the industry is talking about the truck which has to back up into Austereo each week to pay his wage which I've heard is above what he said mine is."

Industry insiders have said that predictions of Jackie O and Kyle Sandilands earning $1.1 million (£720,000) and $1.3 million (£850,000) respectively for their breakfast show are correct.

The report, which Johns has now claimed came from senior radio executives, also apparently stated that Scott Dooley gets $760,000 (£500,000) a year, while Merrick Watts is on $700,000.

Johns was recently credited with boosting ratings on his show since joining Geyer and Worland earlier this year.
