The Call My Bluff presenter, who stepped down as chairman of BBC Radio 4's Brain Of Britain last year, died in St Mary's Hospital, Paddington, after a long period of ill health.
Robinson's broadcasting career spanned five decades, during which he hosted various radio and television programmes including Ask the Family and Stop the Week. He also presented BBC Radio 4's Today programme.
Daughter Susie said: "He had a very long, productive and successful life and we'll all miss him terribly."
Speaking at the time of Robinson's retirement, then-Radio 4 controller Mark Damazer said: "The brilliant Robert Robinson defined the art of the quiz show host.
"He presided over Brain Of Britain with sympathy for the contestants, wit and panache."
