Channel 4's video on-demand platform 4oD saw an increase in its programme requests last month, with comedy The Inbetweeners proving the most popular show.

The catch-up service attracted 31m long-form video views across all platforms where it is available in August, up from 29m the previous month.

In the year to the end of August, total views of 4oD programmes reached 273m, up 20.9% on the previous 12-month period.

E4 comedy The Inbetweeners was the top performing series last month, drawing 2.2m viewers for series one, followed by Hollyoaks with 2.1m views.

Interestingly, the third most popular title on 4oD was E4's comedy drama Beaver Falls, at 1.4m views in August. The show rather underperformed in its run on TV, attracting only around 400,000 viewers for each episode.

Comedy was the top genre for programme views in August, with 9.5m views, followed by entertainment with 8.7m views and drama, which attracted 5.3m views thanks to shows such as The Killing USA.

After it was revamped last month, the 4oD platform on the Channel 4 website increased its hours viewed per month per unique user from 1.8m in July to 2m in August.

The platform attracted a total of 3.6m monthly unique users, each spending an average of 25.4 minutes watching the range of catch-up and on-demand content.

Channel 4's 4oD is also available on YouTube, Apple devices, Sony's PlayStation 3, Virgin Media, BT Vision and TalkTalk.
