The 2DayFM breakfast hosts, who have been beaten by Austereo duo Hamish Blake and Andy Lee at the event for the past three years, took the top prize at the Australian Commercial Radio Awards hosed by Frasier star Kelsey Grammer on Saturday night.
According to AAP, The Kyle and Jackie O Show beat Jonesy and Amanda from WSFM, Nova's Fitzy and Wippa and The Matt and Jo Show from Melbourne's Fox FM.
Three years ago, Sandilands and Jackie O were suspended from their positions at 2DayFM for grilling a 14-year-old rape victim on air about her sexual history. Despite this controversy, their show eventually regained its position as the country's most popular breakfast programme.
3AW's Neil Mitchell was named 'Best Talk Presenter', while breakfast team Ross Stevenson and John Burns won 'Best On-Air Metro Team' and Derryn Hinch won the 'Best Current Affairs Presenter' award, despite currently being under house arrest for breaching a suppression order on his radio show by naming child sex offenders.
2GB's Ray Hadley won the award for 'Best Networked Programme', Jules Lund was announced as 'Best Newcomer', and Blake and Lee got the 'Best Station Promotion' prize for their The Thank You Tour.
Tony Pilkington was also inducted into the radio hall of fame after retiring from the industry last year following 50 years on radio.
