Alison Ford has been named as the BBC's new UK editor for newsgathering.
The appointment follows her recent stint on the journalism team for Creative Future, a project that sought to establish an "editorial blueprint" for BBC output. She previously worked as head of journalism for nations and regions.
"I'm thrilled to be taking on this role," said Ford. "The whole of the journalism community is facing some really exciting challenges and I'm looking forward to working with the newsgathering team to find creative ways to meet them."
She succeeds Jon Williams, who became world news editor in the department earlier this year.
