10,000 BBC employees face strike ballot

10,000 BBC employees are to vote on strike action over a pay and pensions dispute, it was confirmed today.
Officials from Bectu, Amicus and the National Union of Journalists were furious after top managers received large pay rises during a period when the BBC is cutting jobs and offering other workers a pay rise of 2.6%. The three unions will send out ballot papers next week, with the results expected to be known next month.
A strike involving such a large number of BBC employees would be expected to have an impact on the corporation's television and radio services.
