The Sun, Facebook win Digital Spy readers' awards 2011

The Sun and social network Facebook have tasted success in the Digital Spy end of year readers' awards.

The Rupert Murdoch-owned tabloid paper just pipped The Guardian to take home best newspaper in the poll of our 12 million monthly readers.

Long-running celebrity magazine Heat was named magazine of the year, ahead of the movies publication Empire.

Asked about the best website of 2011, our readers voted Facebook as their favourite online destination, after a year of massive growth for the 800m member-strong social network.

Google's video sharing website YouTube was in second place, ahead of microblogging site Twitter, catch-up TV service BBC iPlayer and Apple's iTunes store.
