ROK, the UK-based mobile communications and entertainment specialist, has announced the launch of a PC-enabled service, FreeBeTV, which it says is the world’s first subscription-free mobile TV service.
FreeBeTV launched last week and is available on PCs and a selection of WAP enabled phones that are also 2.5G capable.
Chairman and CEO of ROK, Jonathan Kendrick, said: “With a genuinely free service which champions the consumer, we are offering the broadest reach imaginable, therefore serving to make mobile and PC TV services mass-market."
Currently offering 20 channels, including live news, music and sports, FreeBeTV claim thousands have already signed up around the world.
The longer term aim for ROK will be for FreeBeTV to offer close to 500 channels. The current offering includes You-Made-IT TV, the a mass-market user generated TV channel.
Kendrick added: “This is a major step forward in the convergence of TV, mobile and internet, and works towards delivering the consumer’s holy grail – that being the content of their choosing delivered on their terms in terms of location and time."
