BBC denies Davina McCall London 2012 presenting role

The BBC has denied reports that Davina McCall has landed a reporting role at London 2012.

The former Big Brother host was said by The Sun to be presenting coverage of the cycling at the Olympic Games this summer.

However, a spokesperson for the BBC clarified that McCall has not been added to the previously-announced roster of presenters, which includes the likes of Gary Lineker, Gabby Logan, Sue Barker and Matt Baker.

"Davina is not part of the BBC Sport Olympic 2012 team," they said. "The full lineup was announced at a press briefing a few weeks ago and has not changed since."

Speaking to Digital Spy, McCall's publicist explained that reports of her presenting at the Games had been misconstrued from an interview where she talked about her role as a Team GB ambassador.

"Davina is one of 12 Team GB ambassadors and in her role as a member of the programme and also as a passionate cyclist Davina will be undertaking a number of media roles and interviews to galvanise support for the nation's athletes and specifically those on two wheels," they said.

The BBC will launch 24 HD-quality live streams for the Olympics, giving cable and satellite customers the opportunity to watch every event.

The streaming service is also in addition to the flagship coverage on BBC One, BBC Three and Radio 5 Live. An estimated 2,500 hours of live sport will be available on BBC platforms during the games.

It was recently confirmed that Sir Paul McCartney will close the London 2012 opening ceremony on July 27.

Acclaimed director Danny Boyle is organising the event, which has been given the theme 'Isles of Wonder'.
