Piers Morgan was forced to relay their 10-minute conversation to his audience last night (June 12).
Casey was acquitted of murder charges last year after the death of her young child Caylee, which caused a media frenzy in the US.
Morgan had asked Casey to call the show while her lawyer J Cheney Mason was present. However, she told the presenter that she did not want to be heard on air.
"Obviously I didn't kill my daughter," Morgan revealed Casey had said. "If anything, there's nothing in this world I've ever been more proud of, and there's no-one I loved more than my daughter. She's my greatest accomplishment.
"I'm ashamed in many ways of the person that I was. Even then, that wasn't who I am. I'm 26 now, and I've gone through hell.
"I'm not making gazillions of dollars at the hands of other people, or trying to sell myself to anyone willing to throw a couple of dollars at me."
Casey Anthony has remained out of the public eye since she was acquitted last summer. She had reportedly made attempts for a paid interview with a Los Angeles-based production company, but the offer was cancelled by various networks over fears of a public outcry.
A CNN spokesperson confirmed that Casey was not paid in any way for the telephone interview.
Virginia Welch is set to play Casey Anthony in a Lifetime TV movie based on her trial.
