BBC strike threatens parliament coverage
BBC coverage of the State Opening of Parliament on November 15 will face disruption from a 24-hour strike by technical staff.

Following a majority vote last week to call a strike, 90 Bectu members based at BBC Television Centre and BBC Millbank will be taking action between 10pm Tuesday, November 14 and 10pm on Wednesday, November 15. Further action is also planned for the following week.

Bectu spokesman Luke Crawley said they were "hoping to cause problems" with the action.

BBC One's coverage of the State Opening of Parliament will be aired live between 10.30am and 12.15pm. BBC Breakfast, BBC News 24, as well as the 1pm, 6pm and 10pm bulletins are likely to be affected.

A BBC spokeswoman has said the corporation was "disappointed", but would "work towards zero disruption".

The strike is over BBC plans to cut shifts from 12-14 hours to 8-10 hours, but not reducing total working hours, resulting in staff working more shifts.
