Mo Farah signs up for Virgin Media ad campaign

Double Olympic gold medal hero Mo Farah has followed in the footsteps of Usain Bolt by appearing in a Virgin Media advertising campaign.

The cable operator has signed a sponsorship deal with the Olympic 5,000m and 10,000m champion.

Like sprint champion Bolt before him, Farah dons a Sir Richard Branson-esque blonde goatee beard for the print ad campaign, which launched in a series of national newspapers on Saturday (August 18).

Farah has also become the latest Virgin Media ambassador, following Bolt and a string of high profile celebrities including Stephen Fry, David Tennant, Samuel L Jackson and Uma Thurman.

"After delivering a stellar performance in the Olympic Games, Mo has found a special place in all of our hearts and is a fully-fledged national hero," Jeff Dodds, executive director of brand and marketing communications at Virgin Media, said.

"We're absolutely delighted to be working with him. Virgin Media is all about delivering brilliant entertainment, and nobody has got the nation cheering at their TVs more than Mo over the last couple of weeks."

Bolt, the 'world's fastest man' and triple Olympic gold medallist, returned to television screens for Virgin Media over the weekend.

After appearing in TV ads for the firm in January 2012, which later fell foul of the advertising watchdog, Bolt's new ad debuted in primetime ITV1 during The X Factor on Saturday

The campaigns featuring Bolt and Farah are designed to remind Virgin Media customers that the company is currently doubling broadband speeds as part of a network upgrade.

"Like Mo, we are also obsessed with speed, particularly broadband speed," Dodds said. "Mo will join our other sponsored athlete Usain Bolt in ensuring that we inspire the nation to 'Keep Up'."
