Stephen Carter, who stepped down as chief executive of regulator Ofcom earlier this year, is to become chief executive of financial public relations firm Brunswick.
Before Michael Grade excepted the executive chairman role at ITV last week, Carter had been the favourite to succeed Charles Allen as chief executive of the broadcaster.
Carter worked as chief operating officer and managing director of cable group NTL between 2000 and 2003, before joining Ofcom.
