The departing Radio 1 Breakfast Show host was speaking to fellow DJ Zane Lowe during Lowe's 'Versus' show last night (September 6).
"I've never put it out there that I don't like music. It's lazy journalists saying so," he said.
"When I first got to [Radio 1], it was [Steve] Lamacq, the godfather John Peel, Jo Whiley and [Tim] Westwood and all these people whose show it was to rave about the music."
Moyles added: "It's not my show to rave about the music, it's my show to rave about me.
"In the same way Jo Whiley, Tim Westwood, you (Zane), Lamacq, God rest his soul John Peel didn't have egos. But of course, you need a certain amount of ego to do this job."
Radio 1 DJ Huw Stephens recently told Digital Spy that Moyles's Breakfast Show replacement Nick Grimshaw likes music "in a different way" to Moyles.
Stephens said: "I think everyone likes music in a different way. Some people are quite laid back about it, some people are really hungry for it.
"I think Moyles likes music, but I think Grimmy likes it in a different way."
Grimshaw is to double the amount of music played on the Breakfast Show when he succeeds Moyles later this month.
Moyles's last show will air next Friday, September 14 with a week's gap before Grimshaw takes over on Monday, September 24.
