QC to join 'BB' review panel

Channel 4 today announces that Rabinder Singh QC has agreed to join its Big Brother review panel.

Singh, who is a barrister at Matrix Chambers, will sit as the independent member on the three-strong review panel with group finance director, Anne Bulford, and Tony Hall, the Royal Opera House’s chief executive and a former chief executive of BBC News, who is also a non-executive director of Channel 4.

The review has been jointly commissioned by the channel‘s chairman, Luke Johnson, and chief executive, Andy Duncan, and will examine the editorial and compliance processes that support Big Brother.

Johnson said: “Andy and I are delighted Rabinder has agreed to assist the channel in its review. He is hugely respected in his field and demonstrably independent from Channel 4. I believe his help and expertise will be invaluable.”

Singh was called to the bar in 1989 and became a QC in 2002. Specialising in public law, human rights law and European law, he has appeared in many high-profile cases in the English courts and in Europe, acting either on behalf of the government or against it. In December he was given the Liberty/Justice Human Rights Lawyer of the Year award for 2006.

Singh added: “I hope to be able to offer a robust and independent perspective to the process.”
