'Skins' pulls in 1.4 million

E4 drama Skins launched with 1.4 million viewers last night giving the channel its biggest ever audience for a UK show, other than Big Brother.
A widespread marketing campaign behind the show paid off, with it beating the channel's slot average for 2006 of 248,000 and a 1.82% share.
The programme, which follows the lives of a group of Bristol teenagers, is made by Shameless producers Company Pictures. Last night's opener, broadcast between 10pm and 11.05pm, featured a cameo by Harry Enfield as one of the main characters' dad.
The show's target audience were clearly impressed with 18.7% of all 16-34-year-olds watching TV at the time tuning into E4.
An extra 200,000 viewers watched the show on E4+1, making Skins the fourth most watched programme on the entertainment channel since it launched in 2001.
On the main channel at that time, Channel 4 equalled Skins success with 1.4 million also tuning in for The Convention Crasher, while Five just pipped that with Criminal Minds taking 1.5 million and a 6.2% share, and BBC Two's Mock the Week managing 1.9 million and a 9.1% share.
Channel 4's Celebrity Big Brother at 9pm attracted 4.2 million viewers at 9pm and 17.5% share.
