Michael Grade, who joined ITV early this month as executive chairman, has recruited former BBC director of strategy and distribution Carolyn Fairbairn in his first major executive appointment at the broadcaster.
Fairbairn is currently a partner at McKinsey & Company, specialising in media. She left the BBC in 2004 after seven years and was behind the launch of Freeview and Greg Dyke's 'One BBC' initiative.
She joins ITV in March as director of group development and strategy, reporting to chief operating officer and finance director John Cresswell.
Grade described the first of many expected high profile appointments under his new regime and added: "She has a high level of experience in broadcasting and new media platforms which will prove invaluable to ITV in this fast-moving competitive landscape."
