UKTV G2 is to screen a Classic Coogan Weekend next month, which will be fronted by Steve Coogan himself.
Scheduled on the evenings of March 10 and 11, the dedicated weekend will showcase the multi-channel premiere of his latest TV comedy creation, Saxondale, alongside classic episodes of I’m Alan Partridge, Coogan’s Run, The Tony Ferrino Phenomenon and Three Fights, Two Weddings and a Funeral, personally selected by Coogan himself.
In addition, the critically acclaimed comedian will star in specially commissioned content that will play between episodes. Ordered by UKTV G2’s channel head, Steve North, and UKTV’s acting head of commissioning, Diana Howie, the eight comedy shorts will be produced by Coogan's own production company Baby Cow .
North said: “Steve Coogan is a living legend and hugely popular with our male viewers, so it’s a real coup for us to working with him. This weekend is a great example of what we do really well - taking cult shows and adding our own twist in the form of specially commissioned content to make it fresh again.”
Written by and starring Steve Coogan himself, the eight shorts will be filmed in and around Brighton. Baby Cow’s Ted Dowd and Henry Normal will executive produce alongside UKTV’s Katherine Parsons.
Coogan added: “UKTV G2 shows some of the finest comedy made in the UK, so its an absolute honour for me to be included amongst talent of this calibre. I would just like to say that I’m so proud that my shows, which are a part of me and very dear to my heart, are not only being played again on UKTV G2, but also available on DVD in most outlets.”
Launched in November 2003, UKTV G2 is an entertainment channel aimed at young men, and appears on Sky channel 111 and Virgin TV 126.
