Further details of the event, which will take place in London in November, will be revealed later in the year.
The station's Big Weekend event will be given an additional third stage. Now in its third year, the annual one-off May event is the biggest free ticketed festival in Europe.
Six Weeks Of Summer also returns, with the station broadcasting live from holiday destinations in the UK and abroad.
Another series of Radio 1 Presents... begins this month, featuring exclusive gigs from the Kaiser Chiefs (February 13) and My Chemical Romance (April 2), with other performances to be announced later in the year.
As well as coverage from Glastonbury, Leeds Festival, Reading Festival, T In The Park, BBC Electric Proms, the station will also be broadcasting from the Download rock and metal festival, Russian dance festival Fortdance, Icelandic festival Airwaves, Sonar and the Miami Music Conference.
Jason Carter, editor of Live Music and Events at Radio 1, said: "This year is shaping up to be amazing. We're going to focus on the events that we've built ourselves and take them to the next level and at the same time continue to broadcast all of the best live music from the UK and internationally."
