BBC urged not to put ads online

National Union Journalists and the British Internet Publishers' Alliance have called on the BBC Trust to scrap plans to include advertising on its overseas web sites.
BIPA is concerned that the BBC's plan is the first move to further commercialisation of the BBC's websites in the UK.
The NUJ also has concerns over how it will impact upon its journalism, telling bbc.co.uk that the arguments against the move, technical, business and editorial, are "overwhelming" and the Trust should think again before "opening the door to such commercialisation".
The Trust is due to consider the move at a meeting on Wednesday. If it goes ahead, advertising on the international version of the site, bbc.com, will create an additional revenue stream for the corporation.
