Virgin Media has today announced the launch of The Africa Channel on its cable TV platform, and added content from the network to its video on-demand platform.

The Africa Channel broadcasts a range of programmes inspired by Africa, including live news, current affairs, films, documentaries, soap operas, comedies and wildlife programmes.

Notable shows include Jacob's Cross, a Dallas-esque drama about businessman Jacob Makhubu, who attempts to build the next great African oil empire.

Face of Africa follows the search for Africa's next catwalk queen, while Cuba, An African Odyssey is a documentary on the relationship between Cuba and several African countries during the Cold War.

Presented by Michaela Strachan, Endangered focuses on the rare animals in Southern Africa, including the elusive riverine rabbit and the leopard toad.

The Africa Channel is available now at 828 on the Virgin electronic programme guide, and a range of on-demand content can be accessed on Virgin's on-demand service.
