NBC Universal's Sci Fi Channel and Virgin Comics have teamed up to work on a number of joint initiatives.
Starting off with five new comic book titles, future projects are planned, which will expand globally into the areas of publishing, film and TV, online and gaming later this year.
Virgin head Richard Branson said: "Virgin Comics and I are delighted to collaborate with Sci Fi and the rest of the NBC Universal family to create stories that will inspire a new generation of thinkers and dreamers throughout the world."
Branson set up Virgin Comics in 2005 with author Deepak Chopra, filmmaker Shekhar Kapur and South Asian comics publisher Gotham Entertainment Group.
Among the firm's graphic novel titles are Ramayan 3392 AD, John Woo's Seven Brothers and Guy Ritchie's Gamekeeper. A number of feature films based on its characters are also in the works, including The Sadhu with Nicholas Cage.
