Radio 4 to cut commissions

Radio 4 has contacted production companies telling them it will be cutting its commissioning budget.
An email from controller of Radio 4 Mark Damazer said he would not have a budget for 2008/2009 for "some while," with its next round of commissions being smaller than previous years.
The email, reported in Broadcast, said: "There are some big budget decisions to take. I don't expect to have a certain budget for 2008/9 for a while and therefore would rather wait until I have a clearer idea about the numbers before filling the schedules."
Damazer added that budget would be held back in a few areas until later this year, so he does not have to decommission programmes in the autumn.
