Broadcasters, programme makers and premium rate service providers will meet with ICSTIS, the premium rate services regulator, later this week to find ways of restoring public confidence in premium rate participation TV.
ITV, which yesterday took its ITV Play channel off the air as part of a wide-ranging review of premium rate participation TV services across all its output, will attend the meeting at which key industry players will "agree what practical steps can be taken to restore consumer trust and confidence."
"We believe that the industry has a major role to play in ensuring that viewers can take part in TV shows with confidence," said ICSTIS chief executive George Kidd. "Today’s announcement by ITV is evidence of a broadcaster taking its responsibility to viewers seriously. We look forward to receiving the review’s findings."
