Published Tuesday, Mar 6 2007, 17:03 GMT | By Matthew Houghton
Top Gear set a new ratings record for this week's show, being watched by 8 million people.
The BBC programme, shown on Sunday evenings, has benefited from the publicity surrounding presenter Richard Hammond's near-fatal crash last year.
The show has reportedly seen an almost two-fold increase in its viewer ratings compared with its last series.
Sunday's episode even brought in more viewers than the series' first episode, which featured footage of Hammond's high speed crash.
The programme also beat shows being aired on both ITV and BBC1 at the same time.
