An experimental run of pod and vodcast downloads of The South Bank Show has proved a hit with viewers.
The show was expected to get 10,000 hits a month, but in its first full month in October it pulled in 50,000 hits, and now attracts a monthly average of 150,000 hits.
Presenter Melvyn Bragg, said: "I’m amazed and much heartened by these figures. This was a pilot scheme, and has gone way ahead of ITV’s expectations."
The show was the first ITV1 programme to be available on the internet in both podcast and vodcast, launching in September 2006 with an exclusive interview with author J G Ballard.
The pod and vodcasts last up to 25 minutes and feature an extended interview with each subject profiled, alongside extra material exclusive to online.
With the success of the scheme, ITV are now looking at using the show's back catalogue of thirty years for additional downloadable content.
