'Comic Relief' raises viewing figures

Charity fundraising telethon Comic Relief attracted 9.5 million viewers and a 41.3% share on Friday night.

Hosted by Lenny Henry and Fearne Cotton, the show peaked at 11.3 million and a 47.1% share between 9.15-9.30pm, when Tara Palmer Tomkinson was announced as the winner of Comic Relief Does Fame Academy.

In the peak hours between 8.15pm and 10pm, BBC One's audience didn't fall below 10.3 million , though the show was down on 2004's audience when it managed 10.9 million and a 45.1% share.

From 10.35pm to 3am, the BBC kept hold of 3.7 million viewers and a 49.6% share, with 5.3 million and a 49.1% share still watching at midnight.

Only ITV1's soaps Emmerdale and Coronation Street did better, taking 6.9 million (a 33.2% share) and 8.2 million (a 36.5% share), respectively.
