A new suspect has been interviewed by police investigating the Jimmy Savile abuse scandal.

The man in his 80s from Berkshire attended a south London police station by appointment today (November 29).

Metropolitan Police said that the man is being interviewed for offences that do not directly relate to Savile.

The investigation sparked by revelations of Savile's abuse come under three sections: abuse committed by Savile alone; abuse committed by Savile along with others; and others committing abuse.

Gary Glitter, Freddie Starr, Dave Lee Travis and ex-TV producer Wilfred De'Ath are believed to be the other four individuals arrested as part of the investigations.

The Savile abuse scandal and consequent controversy over a Panorama documentary being pulled from the BBC's schedule last year eventually led to the departure of BBC director general George Entwistle.
